Default Mystery Part

Hi
First time poster here.

My daughter has a v6 Hyundai Sonata 1997 petrol automatic 4 door sedan.

It refused to start the other day at the petrol station. Starter worked normal but that was all.
Anyway some guys checked it and found there was no output from the coil.

I removed it yesterday then noticed another unidentified small box with a couple of wires out of it, next to the coil.
To my surprise the wires were bare and touching each other.
The box had no part numbers and I have no idea of its purpose of if that was the cause of her starting problems.

Can anyone identify it from the photo - perhaps part number and purpose ?

Smile Noise Filter

Well it the appears to be a noise filter that had shorted causing problems with ignition coil operation and also tacho display and speedo not working.

The item has been replaced and all is well - Ignition / Tacho / Speedo all working as they should.

(Item C62 in schematic) :-)

Very interesting. I don't recall to have seen this on mine. I'll go check.
Thanks for sharing.
