Default removing antenna from trunk

so my 2002 power antenna has been making a clunking/popping noise for some time, and i think finally died on me. it's stuck in the up position, and i can't force it back to the closed position.

i took the trunk apart, removed the 10 mm nut, the ground wire, the male/female connector, and nearly removed the whole unit but since i can't get the antenna mast to go down, i can't remove it from the car. i tried loosening the 12mm chrome nut but the antenna mast won't budge.

any suggestions? also my dealer wants 176 bucks for a new motor/antenna assembly. anybody good online?

If you are replacing it, just cut the mast with a pair of cutters so it can come out.

well i found an aftermarket universal power motor and mast for 40 bucks, but until it comes in, i'd like to at least shove the broken mast down a bit. i'd just remove it but then i'd have a hole into the fender/ trunk...

Default Radio Antenna Replace How-To

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/242890...-sonata/page-8

Hey everybody. The stock power antenna finally started dying after 10 years, so I did a quick write-up of the aftermarket replacement.

I got it from Hyundai Sonata 96253-38001 Power Antenna Mast 1998-2005, and they ship very quickly. The also have just the mast, or just the gasket, etc.

The tech guy was very helpful too. Highly recommended.

Enjoy!
