sante fe wheels on 09 sonata
I would like to know if wheels from an 06 sante fe will fit on my new 09 sonata. They are 16X6.5 and BOLT PATTERN is 5ON4.50. The size appears to be the same as what's on the Sonatas with alloy wheels, but I'd like to know for sure before I buy them. My new Sonata came with steel wheels and wheel covers. I put snow tires on the steel wheels and have the brand new Michelin tires waiting for some better rims. Any help here would be appreciated.

They shoudl fit with no problems. They have the same bolt pattern and center bore. I replaced the 16" wheels on my 2006 Tucson with 18" wheels from a Hyundai Veracruz with no problems:

If you haven't purchased those Santa Fe wheels, I have a set of 4 16" Tucson wheels that would also fit:

Personally, I think the 2006 Santa Fe 16" wheels are just OK compared to others.

Hyundai wheels
I'm going to use a set of 16" Tiburon 03 wheels on my 07 Sonata. I bought them years ago off ebay with three great Michelins for ~ $130. My kind of price.
16x6-1/2 (alloy, 5 spoke). I prefer 16" to 17" for street use, as higher profile tires offer more protection for the wheel & a softer ride. Hitting a bump & destroying a wheel & tire is just too easy with lower profile tires, especially with 50 & below series aspect ratio. Why do you think all those wheel repair places have started business? |

Why do you think all those wheel repair places have started business? Here are some of my past and present cars: 2002 Voyager - 17" wheels - 225/60-17 tires - 45,000+ miles = zero problems 2003 Vibe - 17" wheels - 215/50-17 tires - 24,000+ miles = zero problems 2004 Tiburon - 17" wheels 215/45-17 tires - 36,000+ miles = zero problems 2006 Tucson - 18" wheels - 235/50-18 tires - 33,000+ miles = zero problems 2006 Sedona - 17" wheels - 235/60-17 tires - 30,000+ miles = zero problems That's 168,000 miles on 17" wheels (or larger) with no problems. And that is on Pennsylvanis roads; some of the worst roads in the country. |
NovaResource,
Give me a price and lets see if we can work out a deal. I just missed an ebay auction thurs. which had the 06 sante fe rims for $159+$80 shipping. As everyone else, i am looking for deals!!!! Thanks.. Greg (PS...I dont know if this sort of sales activity is acceptable on this forum. If its not, i apologize in advance!!!) |
Need Specs Please
ALL:
Nice community forum. First time poster. 1. I am in the same situation as gsgolf. 2. I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata with 16'' steel wheels. I bought snow tires and put them on the steels, and I am currently looking for alloys to fit on my factory all-season tires. 3. Can anyone provide the exact specs for the alloy wheels I need please? All-Season Tire Specs: Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 215/60R 94V M+S Tubeless Radial XSE GreenX 4. When viewing the different "rim" stores, I get confused with what will fit my tires. Example A: Size 16" x 6.5 Bolt Pattern 5x114.3mm Offset +42mm Example B: Size 16" x 7 Bolt Pattern 5x100/114.3mm or 5x110/114.3mm? Offset +42mm or +40mm? 5. Which one will fit? 6. Can I buy 17'' rims to put on these tires? Or does it have to be 16"? Any help and or schooling appreciated. Thanks. |

Ken99,
Thank you for taking your time to explain to a tire newb. Your information is much appreciated, and I hope it will help others when searching the forums. 1. Can you/anyone else provide some clarification to what the "J" represeents in the stock rims? Sonata 2009 Stock Rims "16 x 6.5J with a 5x114 bolt pattern and 46mm offset" 2. Note on TPMS Sensors: I do not have them on my car. So I guess I will be saving a bit of money there... :) I am in Canada, the stock model does not come with TPMS. 3. Will the tire pressure remain the same? i.e. 32 PSI Thank you. |

Ken99,
Thank you once again for the reply. Your help was much appreciated as I was able to find a set of rims that I like. For those who are interested: SPYN - RK7 Tech 16"x7 5x114.3mm +45mm |

2009 Santa Fe with stock 16x7 with 5x114.3
Will 2010 Genesis 18x7.5+35 & 18x8+35 Fit? I can't stand the look of the Stock 16's on the Santa Fe and need to change them sooner than later. Thanks |
I have just replaced my 2009 sonata with a 2012 model. As many have noted the road noise is terrible. Can I change the low profile 17" wheels with 16" wheels from a GLS model? I was aware that the car had this issue before I bought it but since I liked the SI I bought it with changing the tires in mind. Will changing to smaller wheels make a great difference ?
Also I'm willing to swap the 17" wheels for a set of the smaller ones. I have almost new tires on them if anyone is interested. |
The problem isn't the wheel size, it's the tires. The 18" wheels and tires on my Tucson are silent but the 16" wheels and winter tires roar like crazy. It's loud when I first change over but after a week or two, I don't notice them anymore.
So, bottom line, if noise is the issue, change tires, not wheels. |
Hi. Thanks for your coments. My Sonata SI has 18" yokohama AVD invigors on it. They have done about 3000 miles and we're on the car when I bought i. I've only had the car a couple of months so I can't compare the road noise to any other tires. I was under the impression that this make of tire reduced road noise. To be honest the noise above 60mph is overwhelming. I'd be interested to hear if any other make of tire would help.
I've heard of owners resorting to sound proofing doors and floors to help. That seems extreme but the noise is at an awful level. Surely other Sonata drivers have had the same issue. Any advise would be appreciated. I don't need advise from anyone telling me I should have noticed the problem when I got the car. I love the rest of it and assumed the road noise was fixable. |
