What part of the tail lights? The lower powered parking lights or the brighter brake lights? It's possible the brake light switch on the brake pedal is misaligned or broken.

Actually, I believe there is a TSB and recall for most Hyundais and Kias about bad brake light switched. I have an appointment to take my wifes 2006 Kia Sedona in this Friday and I need to make an appointment for my 2006 Tucson.

Make sure it is the switch. There's more than the switch at play here. May be a more simple fix. Pulling up on the pedal will not show for sure if its the switch, since a good switch still cannot make contact if the plastic stop is missing. I had the same problem and found that the plastic stop that is on the brake lever had deteroriated and was missing - found pieces in the carpet. It took less than a minute to replace and only cost $0.91.
The stop is about 1" diameter and 1/8" thick with a smaller diameter that pops into the hole on the brake pedal.

There may be a little rubber stop that makes contact with the switch at the pedal. If that stop is not there your brake kits will stay on. Pushing the switch in should make the broke lites go off. No pressure on the switch will cause the brake lites to come on. You should be able to reach the switch with your hand and operate the switch.
This post is old but other people may have the same problem now and can read the post on this forum for help.
