i know the new four and the 3.3 ate chains but what about the new 2.7 v6 in the santafae .

2.7 is a timing BELT, not a chain. Who told you the 3.3 ate chains?

The "new 2.7 v6 in the santafae" is the Delta V6 Hyundai has been using for the past 10 years when they stopped using Mitsubishi 3.0 liter V6 engines. As jsinton pointed out, the Delta has a timing belt that is replaced every 60K miles. Early Lambda 3.3/3.8 V6 engines had trouble with faulty chain tensioners (which made a racket on start up), but I've never heard of an outright chain failure associated with this problem. The 4 cylinder Theta II engine has been very solid, I don't think I have heard or read about one timing chain issue with it.

Not to hijack this thread, but...I recently purchased a 2006 Sonata with the V6. In the morning it's a bit noisier than when it warms up. Is this what you are referring to. Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Not sure how the warranty works since I just purchased this from a private seller. It has 29,000 miles on it. Thanks again.
