Something related to the airbag was damaged.
Since it overheated, most likely one of the front crash sensors melted.
The sensor tells the airbag that an accident has occured and deploys the bag, but since its not reading, the ECU detects a fault in the circuit and throws the airbag light to tell you that there is a problem with the airbag system.
