Do I need a turbo or supercharger to install a blow off valve?

If you installed it on your CAI or what not, it would open when you let off the gas(due to vacuum in the IM), but the air in the CAI is not pressurized so nothing will happen.

To install a real, functioning blow off valve you do need some sort of F/I. They do make ricey BOV noise imitators but if you get that ill smack you, lol

AND both turbo's and S/C can use a blowoff valves, but the Supercharger has to be centrifugal as opposed to roots type.

Also if you want to make your BOV louder, you can place it closer to the turbo for a louder sound output. Now if you still want that scary, louder sound, position them outside of the engine bay on intercooler piping . goodluck

Well if your in america, and you dont have a standalone, you have a maf sensor which if it is on the intake side of the turbo, will make you need to recirculate the BOV, in between the maf and the turbo, which will drastically reduce the sound...
