1. Bought an 01 Tiburon 5sp few days ago, almost site unseen. Kind of fell in to a deal I couldn't pass up. Must say the car has exceeded my expectations with the ride, handling, comfort, etc., etc. Solid car, solid handling!

2. The question: Changed the oil and filter today and put in exactly 4 1/2 quarts of fresh oil However, the dip stick appears to show the oil is about 1/2 quart over the full mark (over the dimple in on the dip stick). I did drain as much oil has I could before putting in the fresh stuff -even jacked the car up a bit from the front (primarily to get better access to the drain plug). So, do the dipsticks on the Tiburons tend to have inaccurate readings or is it possible that 1/2 quart or so of the old oil did not driain, or???

By the way, used Mobil 1 5w30 (probably should have went with 10w40) and used a Bosch Filter.

Did you start the car before you checked it? Though a half quart seems a bit high, if you don't start the car the oil won't go to the filter and will read high.

I'll assume...which I usally don't like to do in the first place however, I would imagine you have a 4 banger in that vehicle?? If so, it is quite strange to be putting in anything over four quarts of oil. When you change the oil, before re-checking the level, run the engine for about 5 minutes. This will allow the new oil to run it's way through the oil filter and when you shut the engine off to check the level, you'll get a more accurate reading. Good Luck!!

Yep, it’s a four cylinder. The owners manual says the oil capacity is 4 ½ quarts including the Oil Filter. And yep, checked the oil level after starting a running for awhile (and several times since). From the Dip Stick reading it appears to be about ½ to ¾ quart over full (assuming the dip stick measures 1 quart from the low mark “dimple” to the full mark dimple). I realize it’s not a biggie, but it would be nice to know if the dipsticks on some “Tiburon’s” do not give accurate oil level readings. I’m taking it to the Stealer tomorrow to take care of a recall and I intend to ask them the same question.
