Default Oil Crankcase Capacity – 01 Tiburon – Multiple Discrepancies

Just bought an 01 Tiburon. Changed the oil according to the guidelines in the owners manual. Manual says to put in 4.5 Quarts (including the Oil filer) for an oil change. Dipstick now reads that the oil is at least ½ quart over the Full Mark.

Asked a Service Technician at a Hyundai Dealer. He said that the crankcase should take 3.9 quarts (including the oil filter) for an oil change.

Found an online Service Manual for the 01 Tiburon. It says that the refill should be 4.23 quarts (including the oil filter), 3.9 quarts w/o change the filter (not sure who would do that), and 4.5 quarts should be used for a “dry fill” after a motor disassembly.

[sm=WTFsgign.gif] How difficult can this be for Hyundai to get this straight? Is it a language translation problem? Are dealers under filling the crankcase when they do oil changes? Or is the Service Manual Inaccurate? The Owners Manual is definitely inaccurate….I think.

Does anyone have any input on this? Does Hyundai have a Hotline number? [sm=smiley4.gif]

Hmmm...maybe Hyundai is underfilling their vehicles without our knowledge so that a problem will arise and we will have to take them in for service. Or.....maybe the oil ammount depends on circumstance and you should be ok with putting in 4.23 quarts. Pick the explanation you like best and run with it.
