Dome light turns on/off while driver door closed

Dome light turns on/off while driver door closed

While driving if my knee applies any pressure to driver door the dome light comes on. Now the red 'door open' indicator light comes on as well. Quite bothersome when driving at night. Any ideas?

Different years and models have different features and components so it is impossible to offer any useful suggestions since we have no idea what we are looking at.
