Default Need help diagnosing problem

I have a 2007 Tucson, 6 cyl. The other day it was raining. When I depressed the brake, the steering locked. It made a squealing noise for a second. Any idea what would cause this?

You need to be more specific and give more details. Is the steering still locked? How long did it lock? Where the wheels slipping/skidding? Did the ABS kick on? Did the traction control kick on?

My guess is you were driving too fast for the conditions which caused the wheels to either lock or slide. That made the ABS and or traction control to activate. Have you ever driven and felt the ABS and/or traction control when they activate?

Thank you for your response.

I was not going very fast at all. I had just left a parking space and was exiting the parking lot. I was making a right turn and the car wouldn't turn. It felt like it went into a slight skid or slip. That was when I wasn't able to steer. It only lasted a couple of seconds. Then it let go and I was able to make the turn. Yesterday and today it was dry out and it did not happen.

I have had the ABS kick in before. It felt like a thumping. I don't know about the traction control. (Who knows, maybe it was even the traction control that made the thumping.) I don't know very much at all about either one.

I am trying to determine whether I need to bring it to the dealer or not. As I said, it hasn't done it since. Just want to make sure I am safe.

I will venture to guesthe the steering wheel was smooth, then got hard with a BUMP feel to it ??

If so, lok at the crank pulley to have the center seperating/seperated from the outer pulley.

Yeah, maybe the belt slipped and you had a momentart loss of power steering. It could have been the ESC stability/traction control too. I wouldn't worry unless it does it again.
