Ignition turns off when gear is selected to reverse

Good day all,

Could anyone pls tell me what could be wrong? my XG 350 2002 modeljust recently developed this fault, the ignition turns off when the gear is selected to reverse.

does the car completely shuts off, no ignition lights? or it stalls? and it does it only in reverse no other gears?
