Default 2005 hyundai santa fe doesnt always want to start

i have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. intermittent start issue - sometimes she starts normal, but sometimes she stutters - she will start but RPMS are very low and she sounds like she is trying to die if i rev her a little and get her in drive and push gas she is good to go. every now and then she wont start it just cranks like she will start but doesn't. i can try 4 or 5 times adding a little gas to the equation and she will start but i have to keep giving gas while putting it in drive. then she is good. i have noticed if the air conditioner is on when i try to start her the problem can be worse/more frequent.

any suggestions? and am i causing harm by driving her while this is happening.

thanks

Sounds like a fuel system issue.
Still, it may be time to do a check on basic maintenance
Check spark plugs for gap and fouling
Throw a bottle or two of injector cleaner in gas tank
Clean Idle Air Control, Clean throttle plate, Throttle
Check the air filter. Replace as necessary.
See if it gets better in a week or two
If it becomes no start then do more troubleshooting

Sounds like you may have to clean the throttle body, if it has a "fly by wire" (no physical throttle cable) you may need a throttle body.

thank you for the reply - wondering. this morning after driving for about 10 minutes i slowed to pull into work parking lot and car suddenly felt heavy - like it had a heavy load. when i removed my foot from the gas it didnt move at all - no roll. i had to push harder than normal to accelerate. it went into park okay but the idle didnt show movement - no flux in rpms (which it always has) this phenomena happened for about a minute or so and then just stopped. car seemed fine again. i turned her off and restarted, reversed and moved forward with no problems. could this be related to the above issues with the same troubleshooting needs?

That sounds like a transmission issue.
You will need to see a professional mechanic to evaluate this.
