I am a new owner of a used (1995) Hyundai Accent which I came into by a trade. I let go of a my motorcycle, my only, prior mode of transportation, because I am a new, single father, and I needed a car--especially with winter coming.
I'm discovering what needs attention in this car as I go: I have rebuilt the original power steering pump; replaced the valve gasket; replaced the front seats and several interior bits and pieces that were missing or seriously abused with previously owned parts; and detail-cleaned under the hood, which was a juicy mess, and is now... clean, shiny and dry.
My first trip to the local pull-a-part place was when I discovered I had inherited tranny problems. Fifth gear seams to sing in conjunction with, and dependent on acceleration. So, I am avoiding O.D. altogether until I have the time to learn about it and sort that out. I'm hoping I might be able to access 5th externally, without having to pull the whole thing, but who knows (maybe me, soon enough).
I've ordered new Monroe Sensa-Trac struts all the way around to get rid of The Clunks. I managed to get all four for the low, low price of $90.00, including delivery. Internet/Store deal combos can be great if you're willing to persevere.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to participating here, with all of you that share pride of ownership and modest means.
