Default economy

Had a 2005 tib with 2.7 v6. initially used as a dealer's loaner. Drove this car for 20 odd thousand miles. gas mileage was always around 26 mpg, good power.
Traded up to a 2008 Tib, same engine, good power, gas mileage is 20-21 mpg. First; why the difference in gas mileage?
Maybe because it was a loaner, could the dealer have changed computer chips?

Are you sure you're not "hot roddin" the equipment just testing it out? Or maybe since it was a loaner, somebody beat the snot out of it? How may miles does it have? It might need a timing belt adjustment if it's got some miles. Probably it doesn't need a tuneup. Strongly suggest a timing belt adjustment.

You are mixing up the cars. The Tib with the higher fuel economy was the older, used 2005 Tib. It's the new, 2008 Tibe he traded it in on that is getting lower fuel economy.

First, does the 2008 Tib has the same transmission? If they are different, that could explain the difference.

Does the new 2008 Tib have the same options? Like wheel size or sunroof? A sunroof and 17" wheels are added weight that could lower fuel economy over a car without a sunroof and 16" wheels.

How many miles are on the new 2008 Tib? If it's not fully broken in, that woudl also explain the difference. It takes a few thousand miles to fully break in the engine. Mileage will slowly increase over those few thousand miles.

The 2008 tib is exactly the same as the 2005. Drive the same routes at the same speeds. Added a K&N filter, no change. Something is different, timing, chip?

You didn't answermy last question. How many miles are on the new 2008 Tib? If it's not fully broken in, that wouldexplain the difference. It takes a few thousand miles to fully break in the engine. Mileage will slowly increase over those few thousand miles.

No, there is no "chip" for the Tiburon and even if there were, a dealer would not install one.

Default Better mileage

Wow that is very interesting. I have a new 2008 Tiburon V6 that I was told would get 17 to 24 mpg. My first couple of fillups I got about 25 to 26 mpg. I put in a K&N air filter and now I'm up to 27.5 mpg. I want more horse power, so I'm looking at synthetic oil (Mobil 1 or Carstrol) and maybe those new E3 (I think that's the name) sparkplugs. Anybody have any suggestions?
