Default hey there

I just bought a beater car for my commute of about 65 miles /way. The car is an '88 Hyundai Excel w/standard tranny. I am getting lousy gas mileage and am having trouble finding parts for this vehicle. Does anyone have any suggestions for my problems. I have already tried the spark plugs and will be flushing the carb out this week to hopefully increase the fuel mileage ratio. Thanks for any info in advance.

manthat sucks.
my hatchback gets 27-30 mpg even after i redneckofitted more air induction.
timing problem? mmm that'd make a power problem probably (in mine it does)
but you'd notice... you've only got 85 horsees nd with a four or five speed any small change would be noticeable on a highway (mine gets to 95 after a looong time, but 80's where it's at[4 speed])
Fuel filter? cheap 'n' ez!
what color were the plugs? i think i don't get enough gas 'cause mine r whitish.
they do have a computer but i haven't figured that part out yet.
i deliver in mine so i wrench on it often.

(seriously, 85 hp?! i have trouble getting up to speed!)
