This may sound silly but is Hyundai pronounced "Hun-day" or Hun-die"? I have heard it both ways. One web site said that "Hun-day" is used 99% of the time. Just trying to get it right.

Patrick is pretty close. Talking to friends who recently returned from several years in Korea, they say the Korean pronunciation is "hyoon dee". In American advertising, it's pronounced "Hun day" which is apparently an Americanization of the word.

 

I'm from the Mid-west and we pronounce it hun-dye around here. I started by calling them High-un-dye but was the only one around here doing it. The "Y" is silent to us rednecks...

 

In North Carolina [I learned from the Hyundai dealerships advertising on the television] we say HUN-DAY

I say Hee-un-day. I am from western PA and all of us say it that way. At least all the people I know.

 

I work for a dealership in BC Canada....They DRILL it into our heads that the proper pronunciation Hun-Day, like Sun-day. I've had many Korean customers and they pronounce it the same way.
