Default New To HF

Hey everyone just want to talk a little about my ride before i ask for some help with it. First of all i have a 99 Tiburon FX, it has a pioneer sound system, custom inclosures, and custom interior. For the otside we have an AMS aluminum wing, i know i know stupid, since the car is FWD. The engine has a custom CAI and new CAT back Exhasut system. Neon Lights and Neon Hood lights. 17" 5 spoke racing rims with toyo tires. Lowered with adjustable cambers and a silver "T" Decal.

Now for the big question... my Tibby is an automatic and just recently the transmission has been slipping and now it will not engage or change out of first gear. I have put in a new ready rad and since then the car has been acting funny. Not sure if its the tranny thats out or if it has to do with the recall i found out about just a few minutes ago that took place some 8 yrs ago with a pressure valve and AT solenoid... Can anyone offer some advice or possibly tell me what they think the problem might be?

Thanks

If it is an AT, any transmission fluid used MUST be SP-III transmission fluid. Using anything else can damage the transmission. Also, it could be one of the transmission sensors. If there is a miscompare between the speed sensors (camshaft position, transmission input, transmission output, wheel speed), the transmission goes into third gear and will not shift. This is called "limp home" mode; if the module can't tell what's going on, it just puts it in third and leaves it there.

The wheel speed sensor is on the front right wheel; sometimes when doing work around the wheel or when installing aftermarket rims, the speed sensor can be damaged or the wires pulled. Since you mention aftermarket rims, I suggest pulling your front right wheel and checking the wiring around the sensor.

Here is a diagram out of the Hyundai service manual for the 2001 Tiburon; I think the 99 is the same. It shows the electrical connector for the wheel speed sensor, but doesn't show the sensor itself. But make sture that wire on your car is okay, and the sensor is also okay. I would think, though, that if that sensor is messed up, your speedometer wouldn't be working right. But start here and see how it looks.
