Default new Santa Fe 2008

I just bought (2 days ago) a Hyundai Santa Fe 2008. I am not happy with this car. I have not owned a new car in over 10 years. My new Hyundai's headlights dim if I take my foot off the gas pedal. Also, when i turn the wheel, there is this grinding noise. What's up with that?? Anyone else having this problem?? I am so worried I got the lemon.

Sounds like your 2008 sat on the lot for a while. As far as the lights dimming, probably the battery just needs to be charged up. The grinding noise could be all kinds of things like some rust on the rotors, or funky CV joints. It's all under warranty, so I would take it back to the dealer.

thanks. What do I tell them? Should I ask for another car? I think you are right about it sitting on the lot. I was told the car would not have more than 96 miles on it. When I got the car, it had over 150 miles on it. The manager appeased me by giving me a second oil change free. I feel so stupid.

I don't think there's really anything wrong with it. You bought a 2008 and I presume it was cheaper. Just take it back for some service. I bet if you drive it for a while, it would be ok.

ok. I will take it first thing tomorrow. I just really didn't want anything to be wrong with it so early in the game. And yes, it was cheaper, but it's still a "new" car and I still have a note that goes along with it. I'm glad it's not my eyesight and just the headlights. Thanks for your inputI appreciate it! And Happy New Year!

I think jsinton's analysis is spot on, the car sat on the lot and wasn't driven enough. The head lights dimming is usually related to corroded battery cables. Here is a link to a technical service bulletin that explains the situation:

The dealer should correct all these issues.

Hi Ken99:
I took my Santa Fe in today and you were right!! They replaced a cable and gave me a new battery. I told the guys at the dealership what you sent me and they accessed it. I guess the real test will come tonight when I take the car on a dark road. Thanks very much!

Hi Jsinton:
Thanks for all the advice. I took the car in today and it was a bad cable and battery. They replaced both. I will test it tonight on a dark street! I am crossing my fingers. Thanks again!
