Do you know if the engine and/or head have been checked for cracks?
Procedure called Magneflux is used to determine this.
We could be jumping to conclusions here . If the vehicle has set for a long time , moisture could have accumulated in the exhaust system.
Does the condition still exist after the engine has reached operating temp?
Do we know if the engine has experienced severe overheating causing a warped condition? Were these things checked as part of the inspection before assembly?

You might consider this,
Remove the spark plugs and look them over carefully keeping tract of which cyl they came from.
If coolant is getting into the combustion chamber of 1 or 2 cyls you should see the white deposits on the plugs, also has the coolant level gone down any?
The condition of the plugs can tell you if it is oil, or coolant.
It wouldn't be the first time coolant was leaking down to the exhaust and was pushed out the tailpipe.
I'm not going to question the quality of the "rebuild" , but could the rings have been installed incorrectly ?
It would run, but how well?
