I would like to provide a valid comment, but I am having a problem understanding why they did what they "Said they did" because the work ,right now, just doesn't match the symptoms. As far as the cost, you might get better results checking with a shop or two closer to home

what i can't understand is why have I been charged for 7.4 hours labour (£400 inc vat) and a gearbox box repair cost of £474 inc vat!?
surely the time taken in labour would have covered the gearbox rebuild? it seems I am paying twice for the same thing!
The clutch system is a separate part from the transmission (Gearbox). We don't usually get into the gearbox unless there has been damage to any/some of the internals.
The gearbox has to be removed to replace the clutch pieces and they are separate from trans.
Can you tell us just what was the original problem?
the original problem was that at around 2.5k revs when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear when clutch lifted there was a feeling that the car wasn't pulling correctly for about 1 second or so, garage tell me that the seal between gearbox shaft was leaking onto clutch plate causing slippage.
he had to change the seal/bearing inside the gearbox shaft and also changed the bearing feeding clutch release bearing and its retaining clip that had snapped off on one leg.
The explanation does make sense and it does appear to be fair.
Most of us don't care to do extra work if we don't have to, but the explanation kinda covers it pretty well.
There is nothing wrong with getting other opinions if you want to do that.
Hi Paul,
Welcome aboard.
Something you might want to check,
Always a good idea to look at the date of the post. In this case the date was 2020 and they probably got rid of the vehicle by this time.
Something else you might notice,
Very few folks will get back to us to let us know how they made out, they get an answer and if it works they might get back to us and maybe not.
