Default Reg. Brake calliper location

Hi all,

I have a specific query..n i m very interested to know about the following thing..

In some cars, brake calliper is located infront of the front strut but in some cars it is located in the rear of front strut. The same is the case of rear brake.

Why is the calliper location differs from vehicle by vehicle...?

The location is being changed based on the vehicle segment or weight..??

if anyone knows the reason and the design concept, pl let me know.

Placement does not affect the performance. It's placed in the location that clears the other suspension parts.

Default Brake caliper location

Thanks NovaResource for the reply...

But jus consider the wheel the rotating in clockwise direction and you are seeing from outside...

In this case, when the brake caliper is placed in front of strut, the force exerted on the disc is towards the gravity.

Whereas if the disc is placed in the rear of the front strut, the force is away from the gravity...

Does this have some impact in braking performance of the vehicle..?

Gravity has nothing to do it it.

Lots of cars put the caliper on either side of the suspension. Porsche for example:

Bottom line: It Doesn't Matter.
