06 elantra hatchback. my kid overheated it...warped head. Got reman head. checked deck and it was laser straight thankfully. cleaned and reringed pistons and ball honed cylinders. replaced rod bearings. put head and oil pan back on...nothing more yet. everything torqued to spec (37fp on rod caps, 22/26 fp+65 deg +65 deg on head bolts). turns well with ratchet on the crank bolt. want to compression test before I go further.

engine turns over VERY slowly - about 1 rev per 2 seconds. not even enough to build compression without staying on the starter (if I keep starting it does build compression slowly). replaced battery with a known strong one. added my charger on 100a start setting. cleaned terminals. same thing. I would think low battery had i not replaced it. that's how slow it cranks.

anybody have any thoughts?

 

used the wrong angle on the head bolts. over torqued and too tight. picking up new head gasket and head bolts. DUH...
