Default 2001 Sonata - Input/output Speed Sensors , Diy ?, Should I do it, or pay them too ?

I have a 2001 sonata with a list of various problems. Among them is the "limp" mode where my transmission

- My timing and serpentine belt need to be changed. (overdue)

- "limp" mode where my transmission gets stuck in 3rd gear

- Throwing the following codes.

P0715 (no input speed sensor signal - open/short)
P0720 (no output speed sensor signal - open/short)

I took this info to my dealer, to get a quote on parts and labor. Overall to replace the timing and serpentine belts, input and output sensor, would be $792 .

The timing and serpentine I will have them do, but I question the input and output sensor as I have seen them in pictures on top of the transmission. My understanding is that they are supposed to relatively accessible from under the airbox.

So my question: Should I just order the Input output sensors and do that myself? Is that portion easy enough to do ?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I am thinking that I am going to attempt some junk yard triage in the next few days. I am also in need of a new window motor as one of my windows is stuck down. Have you or anyone ever attempted to replace those sensors ? Thats my biggest concern currently.

hi omnipotent gokuthis job on your sonata is very easy, the battery will need to be removed so the airbox can be taken out, (small 10mm bolt between the fuse box and the airbox) once this is out one sensor will be sitting just under the selector cable (2 12mm bolts to remove) and the other sensor will be sitting further back, but is easy to get to even without taking the airbox off. hope this helps

Isn't there a small pigtail that runs between the two sensors that sometimes shorts out? Maybe that's just a problem on the Accent.
