Squeaky noise coming from engine area
Anyone know what this is or does. It squeaks for about 5 secondswhen you turn on the ignition keyand then stops. You don't hear it any other time.

RE: Squeaky noise coming from engine area
My Elantra with 35,000 miles does the same thing. It is an accessory drive belt. As long as it only does it briefly, I don't worry about it. When you first start the engine, all the accessories, especially the power steering pump, are cold and tight. Once they warm up a bit, though, they should be fine.
If it really bothers you, adjust the belt tension, use a belt dressing product (spray on stuff that stops belt squeal), or get new belts.
Slipping belts aren't a good thing, but as long as it's only a brief thing at startup, it's not really cause for worry either.

This is different. Its coming from that black thing I have the arrow pointing too. It only happens when you turn on the key (car not started yet). Sounds like something is spinning in there and sqeaking. I have had belt squeaks before and this is a differnt squeak.
Thanks

bspicer,
try to get a better picture of the part you're talking about. i've tryed finding different pics of other engines and i can't find what you are talking about, all i see are belts and your timing belt cover. if you can get a better pic, we can have an easier time trying to help you.

Doohickie, I think your right. That is the unit making the noise. It has cables going to the throttle. You put the key in and turn and the thing starts does a 5 squeaks. Almost like its spinning. Then stops.
I'll try to get a picture. Its going into the shop anyway for a couple of recalls and I'l lhave them check it it.
thanks all
