Default fuel system

I am working on a 2002 Accent GL hatchback 1.6L engine. What is happening is: when fueling, gasoline comes back through both the filler neck and the vent. This happens regardless of the tank's fuel level, and within a few seconds of pumping in the fuel. The tank can be eventually filled by pumping fuel in very slowly. Visual inspection fails to discover dents, kinks or any other damage to the fuel filler or vent system. Shortly before this problem developed the check engine light went on and gave a Po442 code, which indicates an evaporative emission system fault. I suspect these are connected in some way, but am not sure where to begin. Given the costs of parts, esp the evap canister, I'd like to get the repair right the first time. Has anyone heard of this problem and its resolution. Even "old time" merchanics are stumped on this one. All help greatly appreciated

Default RE: fuel system

It's probably a problem with a clogged charcoal canister or the vent tubes. The P0442 confirms that. Get a mechanic to check into the charcoal system and gas tank vent system.
