Hi my girlfriend has a 2006 Hyundai Getz 1.5 petrol. And there's an awful rattling noise coming from the A/C Compressor, when the air con is turned on the pulley on the compressor spins (noisey). But when the air con is turned off the pulley stops spinning but the belt is still spinning round the stopped pulley as you can smell burning rubber. Any ideas please.

Probably have to do a more through visual inspection

Just a wild guess, sounds like time for a new compressor clutch or compressor

 

Is the compressor driven by a single belt? Could you not just remove the belt and just not have any air con as it blows warm air anyway?
