Igot a new radio for my 2001 sonata, and was taking out the old radio expecting to see the normal colored radio wires. i was surprised to find out a number of wierd colored wires. i managed to get both power sources(orange + yellow), the ground(black with white line). and the front right speaker connected. the radio works and it saves the stations, buti need to figure out what the other wires are supposed to be! anybody have any ideas?

 

I hope you didn't cut the wires off the main radio connectors because the diagram below will tell you what each wire on the connectors are for.

 

Here is the link to a forum thread that discusses a 2000 Sonata, including a color code chart in schematics provided by Doohickie. Ignore the reference to the Elantra color codes, they do not match those used in the Sonata of your vintage.
