transmission-fluid temperature sensor?
Hey ya'll, i got another question for you.
I'm currently driving an accent, 1.5 (2000) with the automatic transmission, and it doesn't feel like its shifting into 4th, or OD. i can feel it shift from 1st to 3rd, but no noticeable shift to 4th. i don't drive all that much and i gennerally don't drive over 65 anyway, but at 60mph i'm peggin 3500-4000rpm. i don't know if thats just whats to expect from such a small, (but intreped), engine? I just recently replaced the pulse gennerator but to no avail. There's no slippage or grinding, so i'm wondering if there's an electrical issue or a malfunction? i read on wikianswers, to look into the transmission-fluid temperature sensor. is this fairly common? and how might i go about fixxing it? Thanks.

RE: transmission-fluid temperature sensor?
yup the transmissions on 1st generation accents is known to be a little half assed. hyundai can also reprogram the transmission control computer to help fix some of the problems. weather that would fix it or not cant be determined at this point.
it sounds more like a dead solenoid to me....any check engine lights/error codes? when was the last time the fluid was changed? the first step is diagnosis. if you're not mechanically inclined a good transmission shop is a really good idea about now. as alternatives, what about getting a used spare trans from the junkyard? use it to learn, fix it up and swap them out. did that with my old car's dead differential

RE: transmission-fluid temperature sensor?
Thanks for the input. There's no CEL or anything like that, so i'm lead to believe its stricktly mechanical. I wonder if Hyundai could just tweek it or if i'll be in the market for a new car?
