The car is a 2004 Accent with 85k miles. On the way to work at road speed the car dropped out of overdrive. After a few stops at red lights, I had only first gear. Stopped at a 711 and had no reverse. Got to work in first gear and after parking the car a few minutes I still have no reverse, I have the o/d light coming on with the switch as normal and I now have drive. Any ideas? Fluid level appears normal and smells only "used" and not burnt.

I am also thinking of getting a new Santa Fe. Anybody have any opinions plus or minus about it?

 

If the fluid is discolored, then it's probably the original fluid. The answer is to do a fluid change and hope for the best. Disconnect the neg battery cable to reset the trans computer. Drop the pan and clean the magnets, change the filter. Use only Hyundai spec fluid.
