My cousin has a 2000 Accent 5-speed which I'll be repairing for him.
The symptoms are:
- Grinding at idle, moreso with foot off the clutch pedal
- Grinding while driving
- Clutch engages/disengages well and is relatively new (not replaced by me)

My questions are:
- What transmission model is this? Part number?
- Where is a good place to find a rebuild kit or whole used/rebuild transmission?
- Has anyone here rebuilt this transmission?

I'm no stranger to removing FWD transmissions, but is there anything in particular I should watch out for when working on this one?

Thanks!

RE: 2000 Accent transmission issue
Are you sure this is a FWD trans? Looking for a trans on eBay, they seem to be RWD. Anyway, looks like you can get a used one for $200 plus $200 shipping.

If you live in the NE U.S., I would be looking for junkyards and find one there.

Should be a Hyundai model M5AF3 transaxle. Should a part number of HY2073-xxxxxx where:

1. Model H : M5AF3

2. Production year W - 1998, X - 1999, Y - 2000, 1 - 2001, 2 - 2002, 3 - 2003, 4 - 2004, 5 - 2005

3. Gear ratio 2073 : 3.650

It's an "LC". I'm not sure what an "LC2" is exactly other than Hyundai must have applied some updates to the basic LC before the "MC" variant succeeded it. Make sure the final gearing matches.

RE: 2000 Accent transmission issue
What year and engine size Accents can I use a transmission from?
From what I'm finding it looks like I should be able to use any from a 2000+ 1.5 or 1.6 litre but the gearing will be slightly off.
I have no concern about the speedometer being off some, I just want the car back on the road.
