Just got the tint done on the three windows at 28% and love them! Goes very well with the cyclone grey car. Ill post a pic very soon, can't from my tablet it seems.

The jury has decided.
The MPG computer is lying to me consistently. It always says the car is getting 2 mpg better than what it really is (based on my real world calculations.)
I hope I havn't misled anyone with my earlier posts (on the first page of this thread) where I expound upon the "stellar" mileage this car gets.

But to be fair, I need to do another test or two. In the next few weeks I hope to do some new 55 mph steady state testing. I still think this car is capable of 50 mpg with careful attention to how it is operated. But driving it normally without concentrating on easy acceleration and keeping the speeds down, it has proven to significantly affect the mpg for the worse.

I think it will require the AC to be turned off and a steady state of 55 mph to exceed 50 mpg. It would be much easier to exceed 50 mpg if its driven at a steady 45 mph. But these tests are impractical. We'll see if I can pull it off with an honest test.

Be sure and check the accuracy of the onboard MPG computer.

Pumping up the tires to max PSI, that will definite help you attain that 50 MPG!

At the cost of wearing out your tires quicker. Don't do it. It's a myth. Any money saved in fuel is more than lost in worn out tires.

Hey everyone, newbie here. Just put a down payment on my shiny new 2012 Accent SE 5-door. I can't wait to take delivery. I think I got a fair deal.

I drove both the auto and manual, and both were equally enjoyable to drive.

I know what you mean about tires... I have a BMW motorcycle and was really shocked how much more you spend to keep rubber on the bike than you do putting gas in it. And that is premium gas at today's severe prices.
You'll pay more for tires by the mile than you will for gasoline by the mile on a sport bike, thats for sure!
Same deal here. by overinflating to get a little extra mileage, you'll wear out the middle of the tread prematurely and get whalloped at the cash register when you buy new tires (due to today's severe tire prices.)

As a side note, I've been keeping a couple extra psi of pressure in the tires on the Accent in order to err on the side of good gas mileage at the expense of a little comfort in the ride. Also I've found this necessary because the Kumho tires that the car came with are steadily bleeding off pressure THROUGH the tire! I've never seen this before on a modern radial road tire! Now, this is expected on a racing tire, but not on a road tire! I can put 34 psi in all four tires and every time (in about 2 weeks) all 4 tires will bleed down to 32 psi. This is obviously a fault in the design or the manufacture of the tire. I've never seen a modern road tire do this. Anyone have an explanation?

Alright...tire pressure. On your sidewall it'll say something like Max Load 44 PSI (that's cold air pressure) What that means is if you load up your car full of people and/or stuff you are SUPPOSED TO fill up your tire to 44 PSI or there abouts. If you drove to the gas station and put in 44 PSi, it would net you about 42 PSI cold. There is no reason that a well built steel belted radial would bulge in the middle at 44 PSI. Your handling is actually improved at the higher PSI. Why?... less sidewall flex while cornerinng. In the snow it is actually better to roll on a smaller footprint. The info on the door column is a recommendation. You will absolutely get a harsh ride but there is the consession.

100% INCORRECT! That number on the tire is the maximum pressure for the tire under load, not what the pressure should be set to. The car manufacturer tells you the correct pressure in the owners manual and on the sticker on the drivers door frame.

Also incorrect. The steel belts do not keep the tread flat.

Wrong AGAIN! In the snow you want a THINNER tire to cut through the snow, not a SMALLER footprint. A smaller footprint means less traction.

OK the moderator has spoken...so I will aquiese. To the OP that is trying to get the best MPG...whatever you do enjoy your new Accent! I think I am going to opt for the Elantra b/c I have a full car of family riding with me.
