My daughters '03 Accent engine just seized. She has the SOHC 1.5l and I was wondering if this could be swapped for the DOHC 1.6l as there are more of those to locate than the 1.5l engines??

I don't see why not because both engines were available in that car. If you're going to do it I'd suggest taking most of the wiring harness and the ECM.

Sounds like a lot of work for a daily driver. Cool of you were hot rodding it to race. But if it were my daughters car, I'd look into buying her a newer and more reliable car (that's safer too). Doing that kind of mod doesn't make for good realiability and to be honest, the Accent isn't the safest car on the road. Maybe upgrade to a used 2004-06 Elantra.

 

yes you can swap 1.5 to 1.6 or for more fun swap with a 2.0l (elantra or tiburon)

 

Swapping engines can become pricey especially if you have to buy an ECU, sensors, ......
