Default Accent Remote starter issue.

I have an AstroStart remote starter Series 1100 in my 2002 Accent (recently discovered it was 02 not an 01) Anyway the guy I got the car from told me it did not work and it had caused problemsthat had to get fixed at the Hyundai dealer.

I never asked what the problems were and never used the remote.
I decided one day to give it a try and replaced the batteries in the remote and turned on the remote starter switch, I hit the start button and it started the car.
But the starter would not disengage when the car was running.
It was like if you started the car and held the key in the start position.
I switched off the remote and do not use it.

I was recently looking a lose wire for my flickering dash light issue and found 2 wires routed through the firewall from the remote starter unit.

I checked under the hood and found them just sitting not attached to anything one with the wire exposed and the other cut and taped off.

Pulled down the remote unit to see what these wires were.
One (black and red wire) is the wire for the hood switch and is the taped off wire as there is no hood switch. (My 1995 Mitts Galant has a similar remote so I know what the hood switch looks like).

The other wire (green and black) is called a Tach Sensor wire. I assume it determines engine RPM after the engine has started andstops the starter.

My question is were wouldthe tach sensor wirebe attached as this Accent has distributerless ignition?
It looks like just the right length to make it to the fuse/Relay box on the driver side fender but not sure if that is were it went.

My Mitsubishi has a distributor and that is were this wire goes on that car.

Any Ideas?

Thank you

I would like to add I have been doing some research and I think all I need to do is find a Tach signal to get this remote operating again.
I have been reading that the Powertrain Control Module PCM would be the likey place to pick up the tach signal?
I do not know were this is located on a 02 Accent or were to attach the wire from the remote unit?
Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

Remote starters are aftermarket products, not from the vehicle manufacturer. I have been hesitant to respond because anytime an aftermarket product is wired up without explicit instructions, you run the risk of damaging the engine management system, particulrly the main computer or ECM. I think it's simply too risky to suggest any course of action not feeling sure what the outcome would be. I doubt you would be happy if the ECM had to be replaced because I suggested a wiring scheme that fried it. About all I will suggest is that you contact the original remote starter manufacturer and see if they provide instructions for specific makes and models of cars.

Astrostart user's manuals are at:

http://www.astroflex.com/index.php?m...26&page=26

I took a peek and didn't find them very useful as far as trouble shooting was concerned.

Thanks for the link and I have downloaded this in the past.
I found a lot oftalk on the Astroflex / Astrostart products on the12volt.com
It is a forum like this one only geared to auto electronics.
I sent an e-mail off to a guy named "Cementbrain" since he seemed to know a lot about these remotes. He hasinstallation manuals as well.
If he gets back to me is an other question as I am no a member of the12volt.com
I did find out that under the dash on the ECM ? Pin#8 is for the tach so maybe I could pick up the signal there?
I found out were the remote was installed so at least I can get it back to the original shop.

An example of why I hesitate to say yes or no to your idea:

If you make this work, you become the resident expert on remote starters.

I have read about troubles when tapping into a fuel injector for remote starters and aftermarket cruise control.
I am going to do an oil and filter change on the Bumbleberry bomber tomorrow so I may try the "imfamous pin # 8" under the dash. Maybe that is were it should of been conected in the first place.
If I cook anything I have the 95 Mits to back me up for a ride (COMPLETE WITH NEW BAMBI DENT IN THE REAR 1/4). Love them NH deer....

latah!!

I have a mits / hyundai comparison I will post in a bit.

I have a 2008 Hyundai Accent purchased new and wished I had bought it with a remote starter. I'd like to have one put in now but am concerned it will cause problems. I called the dealership where I purchased car and they said if they come originally with remote starter there are no problems usually however if one is added later there tend to be problems with electrical issues. Any advice appreciated.
