Diagnosing PS Screeching - Video
Hi all,
My Accent 01 GSI makes a loud screeching noise at every start up. It gets worse when steering and it goes away after driving for a minute or 2. The noise looks to be coming from the belts and PS area.
I'm wondering what would resolve this issue? The fluid is ok. Would it be the belt? Does the belt need to be replaced or sprayed? Which belt would it be..I noticed one main belt for the ps and the other looks to be going to the main pully. The noise is loud and I can't pinpoint exactly what is causing it.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Hey guys,
Finally had a chance to look at this. I did a bunch of work on the car and I tightened the belt.
It looks like the noise is gone but theres something else strange happening now.
If I drive straight the steering wheel turns left to right continuously on it's own. It's a very soft left to right gitter, it's not enough to turn the car. The thing is, I also changed the rims and tires at the same time.
So my question is, would the tightening of the belt do this? If it's too tight, would it act like this? If not, must be the tires.
Thanks

No, tightening the PS belt will not cause this. I am guessing the rims and tires were used? What you describe could either be a sliipped belt in one of the tires or a bent rim. It doesn't take much to produce the oscillation you are experiencing.
