Default High Tickover with Surging

Hello Everybody,

I have a year 2000 W reg Amica SI which has suddenly developed a high tick over and won't slow down to normal even at running temperature. It has also started to 'surge' i.e. alternate high and low speed at tick over. Any help will be greatly appreciated bearing in mind I'm not technically minded so someone will have to tell me where different bits n bobs are located.

Many thanks in advance.

Robin.

I will never understand where Brits get their words from (ie Tickover).

If the engine idle is high and surging, I'd suggest looking for a leak in the intake after the throttle body. Also look for other vacuum leaks. Also look at the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve to make sure it's functioning correctly.
