Sooo, seing the system has electric, and the switch works, lets replace the brake light bulbs on each side, as we appear to have power, but no light... lets install new bulbs as needed.
Be aware of the slots in the socket, and the pins on the base of the bulb.. this is to insure you install bulb correct so low watt filament glow when mark lights turned on, and high watt filament (brighter) glow when brake pedal pushed... ever see car go down the road with 1 bulb glowing real bright, and other glow dimmer, and when they step on pedal the low glow gets bright and no change to the other... dont be one of them people..
new bulbs installed still no power....as i was saying only 1 of the leds in the bar stays elumanated and it is constanly illumanated at all times when but when i step on the brakes all of the leds illumanate only on the back hatch still no tail light brakes......just to add all the h/l and t/l still work including the turn signals....plz help me out im only 16 and its my first car
Have you checked with the dealership to see if your Elantra is affected by the recall on the stop lamp switch? The recall is NHTSA campaign ID 09V122000. Further info is available at this website: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallsearch.cfm

"XD" Elantra not affected by current running campaign. Campaign is for the "HD" chassis ('07 - '11).

The recall is "092" in the Hyundai dealer world.. we not have any association with NHTSA recall numbers..

No I did not. I called the dealership and asked them what they thought and they said it sounded like a lamp switch too. (Remember, I noticed the brake lights were out when I was troubleshooting the cruise control not setting.) I wasn't convinced, especially based on this poster's experience. SO I bought two bulbs and went to replace them. The first I pulled was blown and replaced it. Checked the brake lights and the other was still out. I replaced it and voila! Test drove and checked that cruise control worked. . . . yep it was fixed too.
Again, I noticed this because I couldn't set my cruise control. When I checked my brake lights I experienced the EXACT SAME THING that the original poster was experiencing. Both corner brake lights out and one light in the hatch light bar constantly illuminated. It seemed weird so I started imaging all sorts of crazy scenarios and problems. I have to constantly remind myself to try the simplest things first. It was nothing more than having both brake lamps out. DId they blow at the same time? Doubtful the car has 80k miles, but when the second one blew it surely threw the circuitry of the whole system out of whack.
THanks for the past posts in helping me solve this. I could not find an answer anywhere else on the 'net.
