Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default 1.8 timing figure 77

1997 elantra 1.8 liter. I have a question about the figure for timing belt alignment in the Chilton manual I have. I've also seen the same drawing from searching this site. I don't understand the insert that shows the camshaft cap mark and the camshaft sprocket. Also I don't see any use for the timing chain picture. If it is showing me that the marks on the chain sproket are both at about 2:45 and that corresponds to #1 at TDC then that makes sense. I need some clearity. I've had so much fun getting to this point, I want to be sure and get it back together right.

Ok, I'll ask a yes or no question. If the crankshaft gears mark is lined up with the mark on the block (which is top dead center or close to it) and the word "up" on the camshaft gear is up (which means the marks are at about 8:30 and 2:30 and #1 valves are all closed)....Am I ready to install the timing belt.
