It seems that since the weather has warmed up here 40s> most of the noise has disappeared. Could this indicate some rubber part in the suspension doesn’t handle the cold temperature?

hello all, my first post, and GLAD i found this thread.

i have gone through the same frustration as many of you in this thread. my problem is a lugging noise coming from the FRONT PASSENGER side rather than the rear, but i wonder if it is a similar issue.

When i first brought it to the dealer, i thought it was a CV joint problem. upon their diagnostic they informed me that it was a problem with the strut, and the pivoting plate above the strut. the replacement part was ordered and installed. 300km later i was experiencing the same lugging sound from the front passenger side. i brought it back to the dealership. they told me it was a common problem with elantras and that they were going to order some baffling for the car.

they installed the baffling (sound dampener) last week, and the problem is better, but the noise is still there from time to time. so maybe i will have to wait like the rest of you for the suspension parts to surface...

Hi all,
Sharing info...
Mine still a month old with just 2,182km on the odometer (Elantra x20, AT, 4-Speed).
So far, still in good condition.
Tires noise from pre-installed Goodyear Eagle NCT5 is just unbearable.
Suspension is good all round.
Tire pressure set to 200KPA (not 220KPA) at recommended by Hyundai, because the said tires are already on the "hard rubber" quality.
RPM at speeds are as follows (base on personal observation);
2,000RPM = 100km/h
2,500RPM = 120km/h
3,000RPM = 140km/h
3,500RPM = 160km/h
After reaching the 3,000RPM mark, the engine gives some sort of a humming sound and gradually disspear after the 3,500RPM mark (although not yet reach max. torque).
More info about problems since day one is here in my personal review from another forum.

What does an engine hum have to do with a suspension noise? Maybe you need to start a new thread of general complaints.

Default Interesting

So I too was experiencing the thud / rattle on the front passenger side. I just bought new 17 inch allow rims with a lower profile tire and the noise went away completely! I couldent believe it... I can't think of why this would correct the issue tho. Any ideas? I thought for sure that the strut was the culprit

The SE has a lower profile tire to begin with. My noise went away with the cold weather. When did you replace the rims?

I put them on last week. It has been been warmer here for the last few weeks. The puzzling thing is on the morning I brought it to the dealership for the new rims and tires on it was making the noise. They put on the new tires and rims (in front of me) and the noise has gone away.

As mentioned above my sound is going away fast too with the warmer weather coming. A really warm day and basically gone. Does anyone have any guesses?

Something rubber?

Our weather has swung from warm to cold and back. Each time the sound has adjusted with the swing. I’m getting to where I guess the temp based on the amount of noise.
50-60f seems to be the deaf point. Maybe I should move to the south.

So I hear Hyundai has a solution and a new shock will be out soon. I am going to find out myself for sure though.
