In my 2012 elantra the dash is making strange crunching noises. It sounds almost like the noise a computer hard drive makes. This happens during idle but also when only the battery is engaged. What sorts of issues would cause this? Thanks

 

Suppose we try something,
Where are your Heating / A/C controls when you first start the vehicle?
Sometimes when a module operated function like an air door that might be attempting to move could be producing the sound you hear.
I was not able to get much from the video , that is why I am trying to isolate when and where the sound may be originating..
I can assure you there are no hard drives under the dash or anywhere else in the vehicle although your description is understood and appreciated..

You are not bringing a laptop into the vehicle ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I hope !!!
