Default chinese knockoff GDS VCI

I have a 2013 Elantra Limited with an eternal tpms light. Brand new sensors installed in the tires, all answer the bell when queried by an Autel TS508, and the new sensors have been programmed successfully into the car's system. The light will stay out after a reset while driving around town, but on the highway, it comes on after about 18-20 minutes, and sets a code for each wheel with "communication failure".

I'm assuming this means the tpms module is defective. At 40K miles...

I need to replace it, but I've been told that it will need to be programmed with the VIN and model code before it will work in the system.

Has anyone bought one of the chinese knockoff GDS VCI devices, and successfully used it for this purpose?

Thanks
