Default Elantra Timing Belt Removal Question

Howdy.. new user, and new to Hyundai.

I am fixing up a 1997 Elantra and am replacing the timing belt.
However, the Haynes manual said nothing about the right side motor mount being in the way!
My question is, to slip the old belt off and the new one on, what is the best way to go about this?
I already have the bolt and two nuts off of the top of the mount, and the
engine secured under a jack with some wood. Do I need to remove the portion of
the mount where its bolted to the engine?

Please help! and Thanks!

No, if your name is Hoodini, otherwise, yes, the mount securing the front of the engine needs to be removed.

The service site (http://www.hmaservice.com/) provides the following instructions for the mount.

================================================== =

1997 > G 1.8 DOHC > Engine Mechanical System

REMOVAL

Attach an engine hoist to the engine hooks, and raise the engine just enough so that there is no pressure on the insulators.

ENGINE MOUNTING

1.Remove the engine mount insulator bolts.

2.Remove the engine mount bracket from the engine.

================================================== ====

Remove the bolts attaching the mount to the block flange and the mount center bolt. Blocking should work as well as a hoist.

Thanks! I took another look at the situation and managed to remove the mount on the body side. The belt is off and I'm just waiting for the water pump to come in. Thanks.

Default engine mount removal

I probably have the same engine. (98 elantra) Do I actually need to lift the engine with a chain? I don't have that type of equipment. Any other way to get at it?

You don't need all the engine hoist stuff. When you remove the engine mount, there's still three more holding it in. If you're really scared, then prop up the engine underneath with a block of wood.
