Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default engine swap

My Ol' Lady has a 2000 elantra, anyway the tranny is on its way out. However upon diagnosis of this I was able to procure a nice long block and transmission out of a 2005 elantra (only 45k on it). Both cars run the 2.0 litre but the wiring is different, plus the tranny for the 2005 apears to be electronicly controlled. Now here is the question what do I do? Do I need a new dash and wiring harness and drop the whole package in? Buy a new TCU (transmission control unit) and just pull the new trannyand bolt it on to the old motor (currently has 137K on it)? My subaru mechanic friend suggested I convert it over to manual transmission. I've never done a motor swap before so any advice would be apreciated. Thanks
