Default How Are You Alerted If You Leave Your Lights On?

Hello, everyone. I am leasing a 2021 Elantra SEL that will be one year old next month. It has less than 5,000 miles on it.

I’d like to know if this Elantra automatically shuts off your lights if you forget to turn them off.

Also, Blue Link came with the lease. I’d like to know if Blue Link alerts you if you leave your lights on.

I’m asking because I’m honestly not 100% sure if I left the lights on today. I was at a festival for 3 ½ hours, and when I got in my car, the light **** was turned on, meaning I must not have turned the lights off. I thought I did, and right now, as I type this, I’m honestly not sure if I left them on, or if I turned them on before starting the car up.

I’m pretty sure the Elantra beeps and alerts you if you leave your lights on, doesn’t it? I don’t recall hearing anything, or seeing a warning on the dash board.

The car started with no problems.

So…if I leave my lights on, what happens? Does the car have an automatic shutoff fail safe in case you do leave the lights on? Does Blue Link notify you?

Thank you. Jd

I'm not sure on the newer models but I tested it to find out. I have a 2018 Elantra Sport and was curious about it as well since the car beeps like crazy if I leave a window cracked and also if I have the car started and step outside of the vehicle with the keys on me. I left the light on, with the car off, to test how it yelled at me and I got nothing. So I just waited to see what would happen and it shut off automatically after about a minute.

Not sure on the Blue Link though, my car does not have that feature.

Many times things like this are explained in your owner's manual.

I have left my trunk slightly open overnight in my garage. The car automatically shuts power to the trunk light after a while. I would think it does it for the headlights, too.
