Default 2011 Elantra touring GLS Main oil seal=new engine

in a nutshell

The front main oil seal popped and was replaced.
the replacement(and original) part does not hold because the seat is now oval therefore pops again. Local engine rebuild place says they have seen a few of these.

Only solution
replace the engine

the car has less than 90000 KM on it.

WTF?

I have not heard of this issue in our shop. I did a TSB/Campaign search and have not found this to be a common problem. I would suggest getting a second opinion before you spend your money on an engine. For future reference I believe that you are looking for part number 21421-23020 (SEAL - OIL made by Hyundai. #2142123020) and you can see diagrams for verification at the link in parentheses.

Take it back to them. It should be covered under a service warranty.

When I bought this car in March (2011 GLS Manual Trans.) I had it inspected by hyundai before purchased (off craigslist).

One week later found out this rear main oil seal was leaking. They repaired it under warranty (one month of warranty remaining).

Not good to hear that others had this issue.... Has it been running alright since?

If I could I would get rid of it.

While the new engine seems fine there will always be a doubt. that little voice in the recesses of my mind saying "it will happen again but you don't know when. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

Hate this car and not only for this specific problem.

Changed link kits twice under warranty, another time at my expense and then replaced with moog heavy duty versions that still went bad.

Have to change the O2 Sensor and the Thermostat but honestly I could not be bothered. Unfortunately I must change the Thermostat or I will freeze this winter.

Rattles galore

Replaced the all brakes with grade A parts and after 6 months or so they still vibrate to ****. Actually, many of these issues happened after having the engine replaced at the dealer.... Coincidence.... Maybe...

I was so excited to get this car but it only let me down.
All I want to do is drive it into a pole.

My 2 cents, get rid of it if you can...

I will be buying an older V70 with well over 300,000km on it and still drives and runs like new. Well, when I am able to get rid of this one that is.

Sorry for the rant.. and especially... GOOD LUCK.
