Adding Roof Rails to a 2011 ET GLS
Hi folks!
A month ago, I bought a 2011 ET GLS MT, and I am very happy with it. Plus I got an awesome price through ZAG (not sure how much I can say here on this topic).
Because I wanted manual transmission I couldn't get the popular equipment package with the roof rails. So now I'm wondering if it is possible to add roof rails. I would prefer to stick with original equipment if possible, but if not I can also consider after-market.
Roof rails don't show up on the standard websites for accessories. But maybe these can be ordered as parts?
Any thoughts? Thanks.

The cross bars or the whole rack?
Ask your dealer about them. More info:

Thanks Nova, I read that post, but most of the info there is dated (and/or confused). I was hoping someone might have some new info on the topic.
I'm looking for the OEM front-to-back side rails (knowing that I can easily add cross-rails later). If that doesn't work out, I'll look at Yakima/Thule/etc rack options.

I too am looking to add roof rails to my 2011 Canadian ET. I have the dealer supplied Yakima cross bars that mount directly on the roof and I'm totally not happy. One drive last winter drove salt and sand under the pads which caused major scratches in the paint. Hyundai Canada is paying for the damage and I'm not at all excited about using the racks again. 1 option is to use 3M paint protective film which I have and replace that as it wears or find the parts necessary to install the rails. This is proving to be a real pain becasue there is no kit available for this through Hyundai USA so you need to buy all the parts seperately (I have the part numbers) which starts to add up. I talked to a shop in Washington that was willing to install the parts but they need to drop the head liner and drill holes in the roof. Hyundai Canada has no issue with this but will not warranty any water damage due to leaks through the holes and I'm ok with that. The best solution I found is to locate a wrecked US ET with the rails and buy the whole setup.
Does anyone have any experience with mounting the factory rails? I have no interest in the cross bars that mount to the roof on rubber pads. I know there are a few of us wanting to install the rails because they are the better way to go.

I am in the same boat.. I called the dealer and they told me that if they were installed at the factory that we could not order them.. I am hoping that someone has a different experience?? For what its worth, they are called Side Rails.. I don't like the thule or yakima options that much, kind of annoyed you can't get a simple accessory.. other than than I am very happy with my car after 7,000 miles..
If you search Roof Garnish (seriously, a parts guy found this out for me) for the ET you will get this in the search.
ROOF GARNISH & ROOF RACK. Fits: 2010 Hyundai Elantra | Jim Ellis Hyundai Parts=
Hopefully this works. Here you will find all the part numbers and prices for everything you need to install the side rails minus the labour. I have a copy of this that shows the rails and itemizes the parts. So the statement to the dealer you talked with is, yes you can order the parts, but you just need to know what to order. My question to the dealer was what would happen if I broke a rail and needed to replace it? I asked what the parts and labour would cost to re/re the broken rail. I didn't get very far with that though.
I'm not giving up on this and will update as I get more info. I love my car too.

So my roof garnish, or whatever you call that metal covered in plastic molding that runs from the front to the back of the roof on each side, is peeling bad on my 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring. I want to replace it. The dealers in Buffalo, NY want ~$140 for the roof garnish. That seems pretty steep. So lets say I cave in and pay that amount, does anyone know how to remove it. Seems like something a common man could do once they understand how this roof garnish is attached. A YouTube link or pages from a Hyundai manual would be much appreciated.

I would push to get yours replaced this might be more common then noted but no one is talking about it....
The other thing I wonder about this car is Aerodynamics and Rocks and the windshield.... I can drive other cars for year and never chip or break a windshield but in this car it is on its second.... it is like this car sucks rocks off the road and attracts rocks like magnets to metal.... is the Hyundai glass more brittle then glass in other cars
