Default Anyone Towing? Gotta move a boat.

I really miss my old van this week. I sold my little boat and I need to move it 170 miles from West Palm Beach to Key Largo. I could have waited a month before buying the new car but oh well.

Anyone set up their Touring for towing, yet?

No mountains in Florida and it's an easy 170 mile trip all highway to Key Largo and the last couple of miles are all at 45 MPH. The boat is 17' and weighs 1600lbs and the trailer is almost new and very easy to tow. No brakes on it though.

It looks like the Touring is rated to 750lbs or 1,500lbs for a trailer with brakes. I am very tempted to set up hitch and leave the house at 6 AM for an easy no traffic ride down to drop it off in Key Largo.

My other option is a 16' Uhaul truck on the way down and then on the way up, too. I've done it before but those trucks aren't the nicest ride.

The buyer is paying enough to cover the truck rental.

So, anyone towing?

You said the boat weighs 1600-lbs but is that with the trailer? I'd worry about towing that much weight. It's not pulling power but stopping ability. You might overheat the brakes quickly with the much extra weight.

Couldn't you use the wifes Magnum? That probably has a higher tow rating.

We purchased the Magnum to replace a Durango. Roof racks, Towing Package and cargo liner, etc. It took about a week before she announced that it's her new luxury vehicle. We purchased it 5 years ago and it has about 50K miles on it. If I am really good, she lets me take it for a drive to the gas station, car wash or oil change

Actually when car shopping this year, she was pushing for me to get one so that we would have two but I have a couple more decades of playing before I want a luxury car.

Yes, all of these things are correct. I figure it's about 2,000 lbs all combined since the boat has 30 Gallons of fuel and accessories.

I have some towing experience and know that I couldn't haul it out of the water and have used small cars to move trailers around. This one way trip may be pushing the limits. That's why I am curious if anyone else is towing with the ET.

I am heading over to the local moving place to review my options for rentals and also hitting up my buddies with trucks.
