Bluetooth Kit Installation
Hello. I am thinking about installing a bluetooth kit in my wife's 07 Tucson, but I am only able to find kits on line for the Elantra. Do you know if the Elantra kits will fit the Tucson? From what I've read online, it seems the kits are somewhat universal based on model year, but I wanted to get a second opinion before purchasing. Thanks.
I have 2012 Touring with the kit installed, but I need to remove it in order to access the wiring. How do you take it out? Is it just a matter of inserting a plastic wedge at the sides to pop the pins from their holes?
Thanks
Brian
Thanks
Brian
Did you read the installation manual listed above?
Installation manual: http://www.myhyundaiforums.com/bluetooth.pdf
Yes, of course I did. I can assure you that I'm neither lazy nor am I looking to have my hand held. I've done quite a few mods on my '04 Elantra, not to mention the half-dozen cars that preceded it. I've also got a handful of DIYs on the Elantra Club site.
The manual explains the process of installing it in great detail, but doesn't mention anything about removing it, at least not from an Elantra Touring where the Bluetooth unit replaces the sunglass bin that covers the two screws for removing the overhead console. I need to know if the pins can be popped from their holes in the same manner as the sunglass holder, while the overhead console is still in place. I did not have the benefit of seeing the Bluetooth unit before it was installed (the car came with it) and I want to make sure I'm not going to damage anything by wedging the sides.
Once I have it out, the plan is to locate a hot lead that's powered with the key in the accessory position and rewire the Bluetooth unit to it, so it doesn't turn off when the engine is shut down (I find this rather annoying). If anyone knows of a source for free wiring diagrams, I would greatly appreciate it. Extensive searching has turned up nothing but scam/malicious sites and the HMA Service site, which is no longer free.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Well a few ways for the power lead which is in the wire in the left pillow.
Anyway, you have to remove the entire unit. Cut the hot to the pillow and use the Sunroof hot.
The light lenses need to be removed. If you go this far I would change the lights to led lights. They will dim also.
Been 2 years ago I did this article.
Also again If you go this far I would replace the stock visor light to the auto dim.
If still needed I will look at my notes.

I just checked and the sunroof only operates with the key in the "on" position, not the "accessory" position, so I don't think that hot lead will help. I read elsewhere that there may be a properly switched ground lead lead up there. Once I get the Bluetooth unit out, I'll check everything with a voltmeter.
Trust me. There is a hot in that Sunroof. And there are a few more.
Yes use a voltmeter.
I can tell you that my Homelink auto dim Mirror stays on all the time with the key off.
Wires are usually stuffed towards the passengers side .
I have the diagrams and I have installed maybe 10 Blue tooth units. I never kept the unit active with a constant power on, but I can see that would be ok.
But the Homelink auto dim Mirror + is on all the time with the key off.
The book also shows a + on all the time to the sunroof for memory.
Good Luck
