New 2010 ET Owner - comments and questions
I just joined the forums as I have recently acquired a 2010 Elantra Touring GLS 5 Speed in Indigo Blue Metallic and I wanted to share a bit about my car.
My car was bought in Calgary, AB, so to clear up any confusion with the US members on this board, the models are different in Canada, here we have the L, GL, GLS and GLS Sport instead of GLS / SE. Mine has everything except sunroof, upgraded radio, spoiler and upgraded wheels. I picked it up Monday night so I have only had a chance to put 160km on it so far, but I wanted to share a couple of problems/issues I had regarding this car:
1) The color. Apparently Indigo Blue is new for the 2010 model year and is not on any other Hyundai's (as said by the dealership). The website lists it as Indigo Blue PEARL, however the paint is not a pearl paint but instead has metal flakes, making this Indigo Blue Metallic. I had this same issue when I bought a 2005 Golf GLS TDI 5 years ago, they listed the paint as pearl when it is in fact a metallic paint, not a pearl. The dealerships don't even have paint samples in the showroom for this color yet and I only found 1 dealership in the city which had an ET in this color in stock, so just to let anybody else who is looking know, this color is an almost exact match for the color of my 2005 golf, which was indigo blue metallic, and again, it has metal flakes in it
2) The owners manual states that the speed sensitive door locks are ENABLED by the factory, but may be DISABLED by a dealership. When I picked my car up my speed sensitive door locks were DISABLED and the dealership knew nothing about it. I brought in my owners manual and pointed out the relevant page (IIRC 4.13) and they corrected it within 5 minutes with no complaints at all. I also had them enable the feature where the locks unlock when you remove the key from the ignition while they were at it.
3) The website states that the ET comes with tinted windows, however the window sticker for my car does not list this, and there does not appear to be any tint on the windows. The dealership INSISTS that there is a "very light" privacy tint on the rear windows only, however as they are located immediately beside the front windows I can compare them directly and see no difference at all.
For #1 and #2 I just wanted to share my experience in the hopes it may help somebody else, but for #3, does anybody have any information to share about this? Is there really a practically invisible tint on the rear windows, and will it interfere with me taking it to a tinting shop to have a darker tint applied later?
I have been extremely happy with the car so far and plan to keep it until it will no longer run. For what it's worth the trip computer tells me I am averaging 9.0L/100km over my first 160km which has been 100% heavy city driving. I know the trip computers always lie a little bit and that some engines take as long as 20,000km to fully break in and give their best mileage numbers but it still makes me feel a little bit better inside to see numbers so close to the EPA ratings so soon

ZERO10 - Thanks for the info on the door locks. I was wondering why my auto lock did not work and will have to check it out. I picked up my new 2010 ET SE with a 5 speed last week. Mine is Black Pearl and as you said, it has a metal flake like your blue pearl. I was torn between the two colors but my wife like black. Of course she doesn't have to keep it looking clean
As noted the 5 speeds are rare and mine had to be brought in from a dealer across the state. Forgive me but I don't convert to metric too well so I hope this still provides some meaning to you. It has close to 400 miles and the average mph was in the mid 20's when I picked it up. I'm pleased that after putting on about 200 miles of highway and mixed driving, I have upped the average miles per gallon to 32.5. Based on that I'm hoping for highway driving I will get in the mid 30's for mpg.

My car is now up to 740km on the odometer and the last half-tank I got 7.7L/100km with 100% city driving (30.5mpg) using the pen & paper method not from the trip computer. You are doing a hair better than me at 32.5.
I had a 2005 Golf GLS TDI a couple years ago, since my wife wanted to drive it as well we bought it with the automatic, and making the exact same commute with that car yielded 8.2L/100km so I am mighty impressed that this wagon will beat my Golf. I keep filling this car up way early (when the needle hits half a tank) just to verify how accurate the trip computer is. So far it seems to be less than or equal to 0.1L/100km optimistic, so pretty darn accurate. The Golf used to do ~6.2L/100km highway so we'll see if the ET can beat it on the open road as well.
As for the door locks, the dealership you bought the car through should have no problem turning the speed sensing door locks on, or if your owners manual reads as mine does (that they should be on from the factory) any dealership should turn them on for free. If you like they should also be able to enable the auto unlock when the key is removed.

Great Tip. I wondered why this wasn't happening and thought it was a little annoying to keep locking my doors.
