Default 2005 Sante Fe valve noise

I have a 2005, 2.7L, V6 that has started getting a valve noise on starting after sitting for awhile. It sounds like a rattle that last anywhere from 1-4seconds. I currently am using 10-30 oil when I change and was told that it may be too thick. I can't find anything in my maintenance schedule about adjusting the valves. I was curious if there was anything I could do to stop the noise. Thanks.

I would start with a different oil such as 5W30 or 5W20 as was mentioned
and see what happens from there. I only run 5W30 synthetic in my
Santa Fe and 0W30 synthetic in my Tundra with absolutely no problems
or noise. I'm toying with the idea of going to the 0W30 in the Santa Fe
on the next oil change coming up.

Another possibilty may be a loose exhaust hanger or piece. I had a
rattle on the Tundra a few years ago and found it to be a couple of
broken welds on the heat shield on the catalytic converter.

I just changed the oil so maybe next time I'll try the lighter weight oil.

The noise is definitely not coming from under the car where the converter is.

Thanks!

On a side note, what kind of oil filter are you using? Some aftermarket filters are too restrictive and can cause noise. I'd stick with an OEM Hyundai filter. Other aftermarket filters that I know from experience that are ok are Wix and Purolator.

I've been using a Fram filter on it since I got the car (~4yrs, 70K miles ago) and the noise has only been going on, rarely, for 6-9 mos.

Might try different filter next time too. Why not!

Fram = Junk

Buy an OEM Hyundai filter.

Great advice. I use an OEM filter myself but if I didn't, I'd probably
use anything but Fram.
